to Cascade Ridge Elementary Mrs. Jochim’s 3rd Grade Classroom
Here we go! I have been teaching for 24 years and I am really excited about starting a new year! We will have a fun, but challenging year studying salmon, marine life, electricity, northwest coast people, rocks and minerals, cursive, multiplication, division and pioneers. We can all look forward to a rewarding year as we work together to make this a positive experience for your child. The following is general information for the upcoming school year: School Hours: 9:15-3:38 (M, T, TH, F) 9:00-1:15 (W) PE: Wednesday and Friday-Dress in gym appropriate clothes for these days. The children do not have time to change clothing or shoes before gym class. Library: Tuesday- Remember your library books on this day. Music: Monday and Thursday Lunch: Lunch begins at 12:00 and on Wednesday at 11:45. After lunch the children go out for a short recess, which ends at 12:45 and on Wednesday at 12:30. Your child will be assigned a four-digit lunch number that they will key into a number pad when they buy lunch or milk/juice. Snack: If your child needs a snack, please send a simple and healthy snack for your child. Our snack time will be in the morning is at 10:45 and in the afternoon at 2:30. There will be no snack time on Wednesday. Water Bottles: Students may bring a water bottle to school to keep on their desk. The water bottle must have a cap on it so that it can close completely when not in use. Communication: I will email home a monthly newsletter. The September Newsletter will come home as a hard copy. Please watch for it, as it will contain important dates, class news and updates on our curriculum. Additional means of communication include talking to your child about what they did at school and discussing the work that your child brings home. Star Student: Starting Friday, September 7th, I will have a weekly random drawing for Star Student of the Week. A poster will go home that they will need to fill out, color and attach pictures. Please return the poster by the following Monday so they can share it with the class. It will be displayed all week. The Star of the Week is also responsible for filling our class guessing jar. Any small item will do. The Star Student will also be the classroom helper for the week, line leader, answer the telephone and lead the flag salute. Drop-off: ALL students line up at a designated spot outside the portable. They are to wait in line until I pick them up. I take attendance as soon as the bell rings in the morning. If they are tardy, school policy requires that they go directly to the office for a tardy slip. They then should come through the school building down to our portable. Pick-up: If you are picking up your child please pick up your child in the designated areas in front of the school. You must be prompt when picking up your child. If you need to pick up your child early from school, please go to the office to check you child out. The office will call down to the room and your child will meet you in the office. Birthdays: Birthdays will be celebrated at lunchtime in the lunchroom on a monthly basis. Students who are celebrating birthdays that month will sit at a designated decorated birthday table. In the classroom, we will sing “Happy Birthday” and they will receive a birthday certificate and a little present. In accordance with school policy, we will not be having birthday parties in the classrooms. Book Orders: Book orders will go home once a month. If you chose to purchase items, please do not send cash. Make your check payable to the book company from which you order. Assignment Sheet: Your child will be bringing home a daily assignment sheet in his/ her folder. This is an organizational tool designed to teach students to begin writing down assignments. This is an efficient system for keeping you informed of daily happenings, upcoming events and homework assignments. At the bottom of the daily assignment there is a “Coyote Reader” that I collect every Monday with the total amount of time your child has read for the week. More information on this is included in the homework policy packet.
Warmly, Marilyn Jochim
