Expectations and Consequences

Students are expected to adhere to the following:

·        Be Respectful

·        Be Responsible

·        Do Your Best

·        Follow Directions

·        TRY

Token and Jochim Dollar System:

Each student has a smiley face (yellow on one side and red on the other) that they will keep on their desk that can be exchanged at the end of the day for a token worth .25 cents as a reward for positive behavior. A monthly behavior chart that coordinates with the smiley face will be in the back pocket of their take home/bring back folder. You can check the chart on a daily basis and the chart is coded as follows:

No warning: Smiley face left as is on the chart

1st Reminder: Students receive one warning, unless the offense is extreme: Smiley face left as is on the chart.

2nd Reminder:  Smiley face gets turned over to the red side and no token is earned. Half of a smiley face will be filled in on the behavior chart.

3rd Reminder: Student loses smiley face and has to call home to explain behavior.  The entire smiley face is colored in on the behavior chart.

·     If the behavior continues a homework assignment is given.  The student will be asked to write a paragraph about how he/she can better live up to our classroom’s expectations.

·    The final step is a conference with the child, teacher, parent(s) and principal to discuss inappropriate behavior.

Students can earn extra tokens for great behavior and work habits throughout the day.  Tokens and dollars are also handed out for completed homework assignments. Every two weeks the students can turn in their tokens and dollars for $5 dollar, $10 and $20 Jochim bills.  Students collect tokens and dollars to spend at classroom auctions to buy big-ticket items such as “skip one math packet”, movie passes, extra recess time, etc.  There are many fun small prizes and food items to buy at the auctions as well.

Auction dates for the first trimester are as follows:

October   5 th

November 16 th

December 14 th

Donations for our auctions of would be gladly accepted!

If everyone in the class displays positive behavior (no smiley faces turned over or turned in) for the day, the class earns a puzzle piece towards a class party. Once the smiley face puzzle is completed, students earn a party of their choice.
